About This Spot

Stepping into Sophia, tucked into a charming corner on Merrick Road in Amityville, feels like entering a warm, familiar embrace. The space balances an inviting buzz with intimate corners where conversation unfolds at a gentle, unhurried rhythm. Amid the rich tones of soft lighting and the comforting hum of live music on select evenings, the mood is set for a relaxed yet thoughtfully vibrant Italian dining experience.

Here, the kitchen’s craft is woven seamlessly into the atmosphere—from the delicate aroma of fresh herbs mingling with the sea-kissed breeze carried through their seafood dishes, to the subtle sweetness that trails from a perfectly balanced tiramisu or a refreshing sorbet. It’s the kind of place where every bite invites discovery, whether that’s in the tender richness of Duck Confit or the playful texture of grilled octopus paired with truffle risotto.

Sophia invites guests to savor moments as much as plates, with attentive service that stays thoughtfully in the background, creating space to linger over classics like Chicken Francese or explore lighter fares like an avocado salad, layered with just the right touch of local flavor. Here, celebrations naturally unfold—whether a lively family gathering or an intimate dinner marked by thoughtful details and a genuine warmth that can only come from a place rooted in its community.

Whether drawn by the lively energy during a Friday night’s live old-school tunes or the quiet calm of a weekday dinner, Sophia feels less like a restaurant and more like a local haven where Italian tradition hums beneath the surface of every human moment shared.

Great happy hour spot. Bartenders were friendly and live music was entertaining. We ordered the zuppa di clams, eggplant rico, italian hot peppers, burrata & tomatoes, the deep fried zucchini and drinks. oh

There was music and it was a bit loud but fortunately we were seated away from that area. Food was very good but I must say I was a bit disappointed in the portion of scallops I ordered and the price. $44.00 for 6 smaller sea scallops was a bit expensive. They were delicious but that was a bit much. They were a special so I should have asked the price beforehand. Lesson learned

We had our wedding celebration at Sophia Italian bistro and it was fantastic! Jose and Rico made our special day even more special with the ambiance, food and attentive service. Our guests raved about the selection, quality and amount of food and the wait staff that provided excellent service.

Great falafel. Best seasoned i ever had. Service was great. It was an emergency belly hungry stop and I'm so glad i made the draft pick! Definitely coming back. Thank you!

I've been to a lot of restaurants in my neighborhood and this one is one of my favorite, I pass by it everyday for 7 yrs and this time we decided to make a reservation to try it out, the staff is very friendly and the food is everything it's full of flavor omg. Lovely family friendly atmosphere. Follow me @fusedayspa and @Promotermoore on ig while your at it.

Went for dinner with family. Traditional service, so don't expect them to be your best friend. That's my favorite type of service. Wine selection was decent for a small place. Place just had enough people, never a wait but always changing table tops. Osso Buco was very flavorful and tender. Big bone, so lots of lovely marrow, yum! Family ordered an array of things, veal milanese, fra diavlo and pastas. All on point, flavorful and delicious. no complaints. Dessert was kinda fun, always like the sorbet or the gelato in the fruit. Reminds me of something fresh, even though if we dont know how long its been frozen for. Refreshing digestif or, as i went wit, scothc neat to conclude my dining experience. Cheers!
